Battle of the Bands 2010
The 2010 Battle of the Bands is brought to you by SUB and Legends of Notre Dame. Check out the fantastic student bands below. The show starts at 8:00pm on Friday, April 23rd.
Woodward (Listen)
Joshua Gunty, Nicholas Gunty, Dave Lucas, Joe McLean, Tom Nania
Woodward are the first full-band ensemble that the (colloquially-deemed) "Brothers Gunty" have organized to perform their original music. Along with brothers Joshua (guitar, vocals, loops) and Nicholas (drums, vocals, guitar), the group features Dave Lucas (guitar, drums, vocals), Joe McLean (keyboards, bells), and Tom Nania (bass, mandolin). Although Woodward still await their live debut, Nicholas and Joshua have been writing and playing together in the South Bend area for the past six years, including an opening act in support of Tim Reynolds & TR3 at Legends in early 2008. Now, their opportunity to transform an acoustic duo into a fuller platform has engendered fresh and stimulating momentum, which the band hopes to develop even further on stage. Drawing from an eclectic field of artistic influences, Woodward produce an organic yet ethereal sound by combining new folk with experimental post-rock, feeding all along on the Guntys' playfully poetic inclinations.
Identity Crisis (Listen)
Matt Stolze, Danny McGiffen, Drew Davis, Steve Atkinson, Nick Morrissey
Three juniors and two sophomores combine to form Identity Crisis. Playing a mix of covers, remakes, and originals, they always seek to please the crowd. We have played shows at Legends, Fever, and Ugly Mugg, as well as (the majority of us) at Stanford's Benefit Bash.
Citizen Kane II (Listen)
Mike Rodio, Brian Prendergast, Luke Westby, Shea Bettwy
See our Wikipedia page.
Toes on the Nose (Listen)
Billy Kearns, McKenna Nakamura, Sam Novario, Cory Bernard
On a cool spring evening, four bright music stars from ND gathered to spread the good news of reggae rock. While they have not been playing together very long, they have a wealth of musical experience with two members hailing from the ND Jazz Band and the other two members having a combined 21 years of musical experience on their current instruments. While their recording efforts have been subpar, their electric live performances more than make up for it. They also have LOTS of friends on Facebook.
Cookies N Cream (Listen)
Packy Griffin, Eugene Staples, Adam Onderdonk, Larry Redding, Dan Wilde
Thse guys all used to go to high school. But now they don't because they're all too old for high school. But they still know each other from high school, and when they were in high school, sometimes they would play music together. So now they are all still friends and play music with each other in college, which is definitely better than when they were in high school. They're also all from South Bend where they went to high school and learned to write brief biographies real good.
A Face for Radio (Listen)
Will Thwaites, Adam Cowden, Kyle Collins, Mike George
Formed around the impressive flow and lyricism of Will Thwaites, this band came together over the last month to play in the Stanford Benefit Bash and to headline the kickoff of the Bald and the Beautiful
Samurai Jim (Listen)
James Miller, Pete Bruckbauer, Terrence Egan, Shaun Pluta
Samurai Jim & his Legion of Ninja were formed in 2008 to protect and keep the ancient wisdom and honor of Rock and Roll – to ravage each and every venue they may come upon, leaving only their audience, with eardrums bleeding, to tell of the carnage they had witnessed. With its riffs and beats precise as any Samurai’s blades, and its vocals soaring as any symphony of arrows, this band of Rock Warriors needs neither blade nor axe, save those of their guitars, to vanquish any foe.
The Carolyn Sullivan Quintet (Listen)
James Jones Jr., Matt Nagy, Sam Novario, Michael Rodio, Carolyn Sullivan
The Carolyn Sullivan Quintet is a side project of several musicians from the Notre Dame jazz bands. The combo plays a wide-range of jazz, blues, swing, and funk music.
